Its reuse, thanks to the massive work of scrap recovery, is almost "unlimited".
"To produce a ton of steel from ore you need 1400 kg of iron ore, 770 kg of coal, 150 kg of limestone, 120 kg of scrap and 33.31 GJ of energy, while to produce the same amount of steel from scrap you use 880 kg of scrap, 150 kg of coal, 43 kg of limestone and 10.8 GJ of energy.
Furthermore, with regard to harmful emissions, producing steel from scrap prevents almost 1120 million tons of CO2 from being emitted into the atmosphere every year."
